Description
Note on the Edition
The catalogue presented here is the result of over fifteen years of tenacious, meticulously detailed work dedicated to promoting the important collection of ex-libris held at the National Library of Romania. As one will notice when flipping through its pages, it is not only a classical reference work but also a true art album, given that it faithfully reproduces the images of these ex-libris in their original size.
This work represents the third volume of the Catalogue of Ex-ibris at the National Library of Romania, Stamp Room. It comprises 7,194 copies, of which 230 are duplicates. Out of the 6,964 unique ex-libris, 6,061 have an identified author, 312 have an unidentified author, and 591 are anonymous works. The majority of the pieces date back to the 20th century. The subject of the present volume consists of ex-libris that are considered independent works of art.
They belong to almost every school of ex-libris in the world. The collection was created through both purchases and donations. We would like to acknowledge here the important donations from renowned collectors. Dr. Nicolae Igna of Alba-Iulia and Emil I. Bologa of Brașov.
The graphic artist and collector Dafinel Duinea – an artist who dedicated two ex-libris to the National Library of Romania – made a truly special contribution to the growth of this collection.
The present volume covers the letters D–F of this Catalogue.
The works have been grouped into three categories:
- works by a known (identified) author;
- works by an unidentified author (where a monogram or signature is present, but the artist could not be identified);
- anonymous works.
